MATT BOX PHOTOSHOOT FOR MOODBOARD

so emma campbell and i went to matt box's house to take photos of his stuff. these are my favourites...but ive got about 40, thought id put a few up so you can all get the general idea of how they look. there are plenty close up shots and from different angles.

what's the best way of everyone seeing them?
we're going to lauren's and viv's tomorrow
let me know what you think of these three and we'll go from there.

oh also, emma and i were saying that we're not so sure now whether these would look so good on their own and blown up to A3, we were thinking it could take up half or a third of the A3, then have a full length pic of the trendsetterand their details next to them. what do you all reckon?

CREATING A MOOD

i saw these taken from the dazed and confused website. really like them- thought it could be cool to do our moodboard in this way; each individual with their belongings and showing how kickers would fit into their life with regards to their hobbies/interests/colour palettes. a photoshoped-photoshoot to create the mood

A Kickers Consumer called Chris Hambly.

I found a blog written by a guy called Chris Hambly, with a section on his experience with Kickers Kick Hi Boot from the first time they were "cool". A load of people (oldies mostly) have commented on the blog too, sharing their experiences of Kickers.
I've taken a few quotes from his blog, but go and have a look at it HERE.

"You see for me, when growing up, Kickers were the tough old rugged footwear that people on the fringes wore, not the every day good boys so to speak, it was the slightly naughty creative crowd" Chris Hambly.

"On September 27th, 2009 Unknown Jedi Of Spectacular Fashion Sense (not verified) says:
Oh yes indeed they are still available. They were only available in modern designs till just a few years back when they re-introduced the actual original 1975 design called 'Kick Hi', which is the famous boot, to much delight of the people who grew up in the 70's/80's. Since then, the youths versions of Kick Hi have done spectacularly well....so a whole new legion of fans are growing up loving them.
I read earlier that they're about to re-introduce to the USA market for the first time in many years.....first through middle-high-end online retailers like Nordstrom and Zappos, as well as high-end street stores, with a long term design on opening their own brand stores - they've already based themselves in New York for the task. The range for 2010/2011 for the US market is already being designed. I predict they will be hugely popular there. At first they're apparently going to concentrate on the youth/toddler market (baby Kickers are huge in Europe), which has always been the Kickers way. That is how you fall in love with their shoes/boots you see...you wear them as a child and then carry the fondness through life. In fact the whole thing about red tab for left shoe, green for right, a trademark of theirs, was actually a learning aid for kids....and the whole moccasin styling of Kick Hi gives them an almost immature look on adult feet, but in a fun way...if you know what I mean.
I love them too much.....I will wear them when I'm grey (not that far away already). LOL :)"

Funnily enough, someone from another group also found the blog and commented on it, but didnt ask any questions, so i thought I'd beat them to it...
Also thought it would be interesting to get these peoples point of view:

On October 29th, 2009 Jo.T (not verified) says:
Hi, I am also doing the same project as mentioned above by rosieribbons... just wondered what kind of sub-cultures any of you thought were/are associated with Kickers Kick Hi Boot...past and present!
Do you think Kickers will make a come back?
Thanks!

Hopefully someone will reply?

Kickers & Modern Toss

Kickers have worked with Modern Toss and created Random Bandits- "a twisted take on the world that'll make you feel good." These short skits are funny & make you want to see the whole lot, but its so difficult to find them!
They're all on the Kickers UK Channel on YouTube, but its only got 17 subscibers...hardly popular?! Maybe they should think of ways to promote all their social networking sites, that way more of their target audience would get to see these entertaining videos! I admit I'm starting to like Kickers as a brand more and more now i've seen them.

Another Cool Kickers Vid.

"GO DO SOMETHING NEW" :
Yet another Kickers strapline, but one that works & fits with the target consumer i think?
I love this vid & the way it tells the brand's story.

Kickers in FOOTASYLUM, Notts.

Went into FootAsylum in Notts with Emma Cubley on Monday.
Took a picture of the ONE Kickers stand.
Not exciting whatsoever.
What do you think?
I went in again today, and it's almost like they're trying to overdo the "we're an old brand" thing, with quotes stuck on the stand such as "with happiness stitched in." I don't think that would really appeal to their bullseye target age of 19 year olds? The colour of the stand is very boring and mixed with the bright colours of other brands in store, kind of blends in with the wooden floor. (May be a bit harsh?! Ha.)
I looked at all the other shoe displays in the store including Vans, Nike, Adidas Etc and they're so much more exciting and innovative, not to mention wayyy more colourful. It seems Kickers have the different styles on display, just not the colours, is this because it's mainly the black/brown that sells? It looked like they were displayed as school shoes too, and there was even a pair of sale Kickers displayed at the TOP of the stand? Some of this is obviously up the the staff of the store, but what does that then say about the brand? I think Kickers have created the stand as a way to be noticed, but in fact all the people that I saw go in the store walked right past it to look at all the wall displays which had all the other shoe brands in. Hmmm...

I'm going in on saturday to interview one of the guys that works there for research to see which Kickers sell, how Kickers sell in comparison to the rest of the brands, what colours sell best, Etc.
Any other questions you think i should ask?
Also, check out FootAsylum's home page, there is no mention of Kickers being a brand that they sell, shown through theirs pictures & with their description:
"Footasylum: Share the Passion
Welcome to Footasylum, official stockist of Nike, Adidas, G Star, Ugg, Lacoste, Gio Goi, Fred Perry, Henleys, Vans, Converse and much more!"
Here is the Kickers section of the site too... hardy any of them are in the Notts store.
Kicker's is obviously not one of their bestsellers then?!

Go back to school in style.

"Back to School with a difference with Kickers™/ Text / Chloe Forde
2nd September 2008

September is here, the summer is over and it’s back to school! The first few days of September are usually a rush, trying to cram everything in before that 7.30 alarm goes and its time to kick your brain back into action!
The last thing that any of you want to think about is ‘a new pair of school shoes’. Well this summer we at The Cut have been paying close attention to the new and exciting range from Kickers, always known for their standard school shoe, we were pleasantly surprised to hear that they have teamed up with American-based funk masters Chromeo, to create some funky footwork! Kickers even teamed up with Sancho Panza this year at Notting Hill Carnival, and together released a pair of exclusive, limited edition shoes.
It seems that with Kickers new and individual range, exciting collaborations and funky remixes, they are going to be a bit unstoppable this year!
So don’t let the last days of summer be taken over by stresses of school uniform and school shoes. With all that’s going on at Kickers it seems you’d be silly to get left behind."

Chromeo X Kickers

Im a big big fan of Chromeo but I never knew that last year Kickers and Chromeo hooked up to do a world record dancing attempt and to win a change to be in the next Chromeo video.
The video is a little scary though, but I think its a good thing that Kickers are working with bands like Chromeo.

"Footwear brand Kickers have launched a user-generated video for ‘Fancy Footwork’ by the rather excellent Chromeo. Kickers commissioned this video to celebrate the release of a new and exclusive CSS remix of Chromeo’s album title track.

The Fancy Footwork campaign launched at music festivals last year where revelers were challenged to be filmed throwing down their finest footwork onboard a huge trailer for the chance to appear in a finished Chromeo video. The trailer toured some of the UK’s best live events such as Bestival, T4 On The Beach and Get Loaded. Each clip was uploaded onto video hosting website YouTube, generating 1000s of videos.

The video is a stop frame clip collage created by production animation house Lovebite, who wove dozens of people’s dance-moves together to create a mountain of feet that would go on to power the star of the video; the home-made, motion-powered incredible ‘machine’ unleashing Kickers shoes. Far from being ordinary shoes though, each is brought to life with additional limbs, wheels, helicopter blades and oodles of personality.

Kickers have also partnered with Brazilian party-starters CSS for a remix of the track, as well as a special ‘remixed’ music video. At the sound controls, CSS provide a deft studio re-rub of Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork complete with the kind of 8-bit machine funk that befits a beautifully hotch-potch visual production such as this. The audio file is available for download via the Kickers MySpace"

they did this wicked section "what one's wearing this month" -'monthly pictorial of what the streets are saying'
for some reason they're archive stops at feb 08. out of date. but really good format adn idea. i'm sure there'll be more up to date versions on other websites.
partilularly like all teh angels that the photos are taken from. looks cool
this guy doesn't give much info, but there are plenty of others

if you guys can look at this

Story Telling

Hey guys, I am going to write up the notes from proposal to make it quicker for us to create the 500 words next week. I saw this idea through flickr for converse trainers, which shows the trainers when they are out and about. It kinda tells a story and is really quirky and feel good so matches brand essence, and is quite fun to look at so will get attention. See what you think, i do still think we should see what our opinion former wears with them, but quite like this idea too.

footwear research

Crooked tongues

so i've signed up to crooked tongues which is a sneaker website. might help us get into the minds of a shoe lover/trendsetter.
found it interesting that the brands which were mentioned in our kickers lecture (new balance, reebok, adidas, nike, converse...) are all on this website. huge focus on product range and discussion in the forums, these are seen as kickers main competitors yet kickers aren't on here. whether it's because they're a UK brand rather than US, im not sure.
maybe we should mention that...are kickers available in the US?

is it these forums and blogs which kickers/we need to get involved in (as opposed to the obvious facebook route)
i'll carry on researching!

Colour theme?

As we have already spoken about, the colour for all the advertisement we have seen through Kickers does not work for the market we are targeting, so just thought we should all have a think about a signature colour for the brand. Jo and Rebecca could ask the people they stop on the street their face colours and we tally up? Also nice little graph will look good on the presentation!

Kickers on Flickr

Found kickers on Flickr there name is "meet the kickers" lots of stuff about their festival touring and all the kicker boots.

This means when the opinion former takes the pictures in their boots and its published on flickr, kickers flickr can be linked to it and also can see how our opinion former is wearing them.

Kickers Couture range!

After reading about the 2007 Henry Holland collaboration with Kickers, I came across another style bubble post about how Kickers had a launch event during London Fashion Week that year where they collaborated with a series of designers.

This collection of Kickers is interesting to read about as I never even knew they had done something like that before!!

Rebecca.

Kickers advertising on Facebook!?

I was changing my profile picture on Facebook, when i saw a Kickers ad on the side! I've never seen one on Facebook before, does this mean they are starting to look at their target consumer a little bit more and are trying to become a bit more focused with who they are aiming their product at? But then again, it's confusing when the advert is slightly kiddy-fied with the whole mucky puddles & child like illustrations. Also the code "kick kids" implies that they are aiming at children, when Facebook is known to be more of a teenage social network? Confusing.

henry holland for kickers t-shirt.

Back in 2007 kickers hooked up with henry holland to design tshirts using his trademark logo but with a kickers influence. The slogans read things like "I'd drop my knickers for a pair of Kickers" and "Lose the clothes/Leave on those Kick-HoHs".

Kickers definitely should collaborate with more designers and modernism their website and make their brand BE SEEN!!!
