Our team aims to investigate the thoughts and actions of our chosen opinion former, hence using a sociable, creative person that matches the attributes of a Connector described in Malcolm Gladwell’s “The Tipping Point”. Connectors are highly influential characters within so many different tribes in our society, and have large and ever-expanding social circles. The opinion formers we have selected match these attributes, so we know our chosen Trendsetter will help us to get Kickers seen and in effect, help to raise Kickers brand awareness.
After receiving their Kick Hi boots, our opinion former will have access to a Flickr account which we will have created for them. Here, they will be able to upload images of them wearing the Kick Hi's, which will in turn promote the brand, inspire others to wear Kickers, as well as showing new ways to wear and customize their shoes.
These images of our opinion former will then be added to the popular Flickr group “Wardrobe Remix”, where members are invited to post pictures of their daily outfits. From this, we will have an improved insight of what others think of Kickers, due to the encouragement of comments within the Flickr group. The users will be able to give feedback on our Trendsetter's Kick Hi's, allowing us to see their opinions of Kickers as a brand.
Our team will also create a Blog for the Trendsetter to note down when and where they wear their Kickers, and the comments they are receiving about them. This will be extremely helpful for us, as we will have constant access to the site to find out what is happening, without repeatedly having to contact them personally.
To realise the potential for Kickers and see if their brand awareness is increasing, the first section of tracking will be split up over three weeks to give the opinion former more direction, and to gain statistics on our findings. We have included a copy of the three week track sheet that we will give to our opinion former as part of this.
After this initial three week track, we will meet with our Trendsetter to talk about their key findings, and to brief them on the second part of the experiment.
Within this second part of the track, we will ask the opinion former to continue blogging about the shoes, updating their Flickr account and wearing their Kick Hi's regularly for the following three weeks. After this second three week period, we will then meet up again to look at the findings of the whole 6 week experiment, to see what they have found most interesting and most importantly, if they are going to continue to wear the shoes.
Whilst the Trendsetter track is being carried out, our team will continue to research the brand awareness of Kickers. This will include conducting focus groups with different tribes, and observational research in Nottingham, where we will ask people we consider to be opinion formers about the brand. We have also decided to interview Trendsetters who wear Kickers, to see what interests they have and what tribe they belong to, to see if there is a particular type of opinion former that wears them.
Overall, we wish to further our understanding of the process of how trends are generated, and by completing the research we have set ourselves, we will be able to feed back to Kickers our findings and help them in their pursuit to raise brand awareness.
Also, had to take out the actual 3 week track as it was too many words, but we're handing that in anyway.
